beer helped me cope
Don’t take this the wrong way but that’s the first step on the road to a drinking problem. I speak from personal experience - my current ‘difficult’ relationship with alcohol stems from ‘drinking to cope’, which developed into drinking out of habit... I’ve never quite got as far as putting gin on my cornflakes* but heading in that general direction.
If you have the self-discipline to avoid that slippery slope then good for you. I don’t. However, at the end of a hard week, I really wanted a beer last night but managed to convince myself I didn’t need it, which is a minor victory. I don’t want to come over all self-righteous about it and I suspect your post is mostly flippant but for me, this is a more serious matter.
