A couple we work with are doing the Sober in October pledge for McMillan Cancer... we're all being harrassed to sponsor them all the time and they go on and on and on and on and on about how hard it will be and how long it is til they can have alcohol........ you'd think they were running a marathon every day. They even had a drinking count-down up to midnight on the 30th in preparation so they were totally plastered along with their drinking buddies who think they are heroes....

I don't get annoyed often, it takes a lot [apart from privatisation of public services and utilities ] but this is just too much.... besides which, I said I'd sponsor them if they donate all the money they are saving by not drinking for the month... Oh no, you should have seen the reaction... blank stare...

How old are these people?
I only ask because before getting married and having kids I would have found it almost impossible to foresake booze for a month because my whole social life revolved around booze, and when you are single your social life is all you have.
Now I could go without booze for a month with very little problem.

I did the 'tache thing last year - but didn't set out to raise cash from everyone I knew. Still raised £40.

And I've not touched alcohol in nearly 3 years. Anyone want to donate to the 'N+1' fund

I give up for summer as alcohol interferes with my sleep making it more difficult to get up very early on the weekends and earlier on work days to take advantage of the light mornings.

I'm only giving up alcohol in October as I have surgery next week. No booze since last weekend, so no alcohol for over a week before surgery, then I suspect my system will be on overdrive with pain killers and other medication for a few weeks. Boo.

Sounds as if Archie_tect's co-workers need Alcoholics Anonymous. If it's that difficult to do without then they really musst have a problem.

I like the response.

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?

I have quite a few people I have said this too, that perhaps if it is so difficult they ought to extend the ban for life.
