My son’s girlfriend who is 17 moved in to my house last night because her mum kicked her out! Her crime? Getting a job!!! She has an 19 month old son (not my son’s) and this woman was claiming benefits for her daughter and her grandson and because she got a job them benefits will stop.

What has society become?

Greedy.

Several of the sixth formers that I teach had to hand over their EMA to their parents who regarded it as their income and not as a fund for their offspring to squander on Starbucks coffee, alcohol and cigarettes before claiming that they can't afford to buy textbooks or pay for basic consumables.

My son has listened to a lot of the conversation that was going on so I'm pretty sure I have the full story. My son has been dating this girl for over a year so I do know her quite well.

Lost it, got it again.
Not sure Im getting where this "sickness" is in the OP. If he is referring to lack of moral in the youth the he has a point.

The girl is getting a job to try and make a better life for her and her son without having to rely on state handouts; I see no problems with her morals over that.

The sickness is that people want to live on state handouts and are quite happy to live that way. There is no reason for the mother or her boyfriend not getting a job. They seem to want to encourage her to not get a job that living on benefits is OK.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
There is no reason for the mother or her boyfriend not getting a job.

Other than two-and-a-half million people out of work and a shortage of jobs available, you mean?

It's not as easy as just wandering up town to get a job, I'm finding it pretty difficult to find a job, no supermarkets are hiring (which usually take on most students) and I can't really seem to find anywhere, my uncle owns a recruiting agency and he's said he's gonna keep a look out but nothing yet, think I'm in a bad area for jobs.

The bit of the story that you may be missing is who looks after the kid when she is working ? (and if it's the local nursery, who pays ?)
