Became SKYPE, free calls over the internet when it started. That's what's being used. The company makes nothing from the actual call.

Just an update... Nothing to update.

He hasn't had any more calls, and seems his credit (its PAYG) is what it should be.

I am an amateur, but I can see how they can charge you without either some operator intervention "Do you accept this call?" or unless you call them back.

Mobile phone companies no longer need to prove what way the call is going in order to charge. Just that the number was in use at the time.
Probably why its mobiles they are targeting.

All unknown numbers on my mobile go unanswered and are googled. They normally turn out to be trying to offer compo for mis-sold PPI. Only takes a few seconds to check on my phone browser, and saves me from a lot of timewasters or scammers.

I wish I had the time to duplicate the efforts of Gilbert Murray of Gypping in the Marsh, his treatment of the on-line 419 scams was pure genius.
