Lad at work for instance, he happens upon me yesterday, I had dismounted at the bottom of a hill on a singletrack road otherwise he wouldnt have caught up but I hadnt seen him doing that route or cycling for ages so was surprised, he arrived next to me in denim shorts and a t shirt, no gloves, it was minus 2 ffs !
I asked him from my Altura/jumper/longs/buff/ski gloves/skull cap cocoon if he was cold and he said he was, his bike was the same old MTB on slicks I saw him on last summer, I asked if he had got it fixed up and he said no and demonstrated the bottom bracket that has no bearings left, the pedals have a 5 cm side to side range of motion, this also highlighted the chain with zero lubrication and the fact it was in a dire state, he said the BB problem was insurmountable as it has a stripped thread.
Now this guy has a car and a job, why would anyone ride such heap of junk for a 15 mile round trip, what thought processes mean you are travelling at 8 mph because your crank flops from side to side whilst slowly freezing to death ? I dont think its money as for very little money you can get a roadworthy bike, I sold one of the kids old ones for 7 quid on Ebay that was better than his.
He carries no spare tubes, as I found out last summer when I found him trying to fix a puncture in front of the bike sheds, I lent him one of my two spares which he faithfully said he would replace and was very grateful but none turned up, not bothered, will take the Karma.
I rode with him a while until I said I needed to get moving, and left at a good 20 mph, hey, a scalp is a scalp
Anyone else know any cyclists with strange behaviour (apart fom doing it in the first place)
