That pretty much covers it, concise, covers all the bases, would be lovely if that was how all road users behaved.

Here are some thoughts on cycling safety, any more that I should add?

That is really good, thank you. There is one thing that could possibly be added, and I do not wish to imply any criticism....

You mentioned the need for motorists to be careful when opening car doors. Perhaps you could add a little bit in the "why cyclists do not live in the gutter section" to explain that riding too close to lines of parked cars requires us to avoid that risk, and that we ride a few feet out from them for a reason? Some motorists do not understand that.

Great stuff, and thanks.

maybe explain why we 'take the lane' when it is not safe to overtake ?
(sorry if you've covered that but I'm still asleep)

Very clear.
I wonder if it is worth just emphasising NOT to go up the inside of HGVs etc waiting at lights? Even if they are not indicating left they may still do so.

2 things - maybe add why people don't always use cycle lanes - e.g. bad design.
And should there also be something about lights/night riding?

Excellent article though.

Nicely written. I know we joke about it, but it would be worth promoting Cyclecraft as further reading.

Good point, I was thinking I should put in something about Cyclecraft, maybe I will...

All very good- Just followed the link onto the "Cyclists pay for the roads as well bit-
You are right in the points you put but I am not sure the articles actually delivers anything to show that cyclists pay for the road in any way. Just because what drivers pay is swallowed up in costs does not really relate to cyclists.

I would go on the tack that there are x number of cars out there who do not pay road tax like a bike and of course we do not need huge trunk roads and motorways which take up most of the cost in maintianing.
