Something for the Politicians!!!

I am sorry if this is posted in the wrong place (Admin's move if you feel it needs to)

Just looking through the mountain of stuff and petty promises by the politicians, I am going to throw some ideas into the mix for them to pick up, or you guys can ask them when they knock on your door nearer the election (at Tea time when your mouth is full of food). So please look through the list and feel free at add whatever you think is worthwhile abd achievable.

1. I agree with scrapping the "Car Tax" in favour of increased fuel duty
2. I agree with abolishing VAT on bikes
3. I agree with taxing car park spaces in multi/shopping mall car parks
4. I agree with lowering speed limit in built up areas to 20 max.
5. I agree that cyclists pass a test to use road (yes that means a refresher for us old guys), Horsey types to be included in the road use test
6. I suggest that motorists refresh the theory exam every 5 years (and make sure that questions about other road users are included).
7. I agree that cycling proficiency tests are to be part of school curriculum
8. I suggest that who ever digs up the road is accountable for that section for 5 years and has to repair any potholes within 5 days of reporting
9. I suggest that the state training establishments start courses on cycle maintenance (to get improved standards across the field - rather than "monkey see, monkey do")
10. Cycling on pavement is OK if training young persons to ride bikes, but sticking a sign that says "Cycle Path" does not make it safe when other pavement users are using it too.
11. Get taxi's out of the bus/cycle lane as the client is paying anyway (I will work on a way to remove the bus soon!!!! )

Anyway, that is enough for starters, what do you guys think?

3,4 and 7 are very good imho . 2 and 6 are nice ideas but will likely never happen. 1 is the only one I disagree with a fair bit.
