I never get those overtakes people do when there is a que of traffic they have to stop for, the second their bumper gets slightly past. Not dangerous, but completely pointless. It just shows a complete lack of anticpation imo.

Oh I get it - I mentioned this on a thread yesterday...the mentality that the 2 car space between you and the car in front must be filled by their car. Can't stand it, so I usually make a point of riding past the driver's side and mouthing "That was worth it".

I got blanked by the girl earlier . Lovely commute earlier though - about 5 miles of solid traffic to filter through . Shame I was tired.

It really annoys me - they pass really really fast, milimetres past you to then stop dead at a queue often 10/20 cars long?!

There is just a must overtake mentality isn't there. This morning cyling in it was unusually quite on a downhill run and I was going for it - got overtaken close by a car - looked at my speedo and I was doing 38 mph ( ) anyway - in a 30 mph zone! I should be more careful actually I was really shocked to be going that fast! Slowed down to the limit straight away anyway.

I presume you can be done for speeding on a bike the same as in a car?

Only in certain places like the royal parks and some seafronts. Otherwiise speed limits only apply to motorised vehicles.

Today, I had somebody undertake me as I was in the right-hand lane coasting up to a red light. I sat behind him for a couple of minutes and watched his missus give him a swearing for it. Cheered me right up, so it did.

I've only been commuting for about a month but that guy is the first muppet I've encountered. Even the buses have been nice. One crawled up a hill behind me instead of overtaking and pulling into the bus stop at the top of the hill.

We can get done for "furious cycling" or something like that. Basically, don't run anyone over and kill them and you'll be fine.

I recall looking at the varios sections of the Road Traffic Acts that covered cycling a few years ago. I may be wrong, but I think the furious thing is no more, but you can be done for cycling without due care & attention.

Had one two days ago - roundabout, I'm moving with the traffic to the lights, a car HAS to get past me despite there being no space in front of me, so she pulls alongside and once I'm gone from her mirror, I'm no longer there, so she pulls back in again. Squashing me to the curb.
She only stopped when my frantic hammering on her roof got her attention, by which time I'd been pushed most of the way off my bike.
Stupid cow wouldn't even look at me after.

On the plus side, I think there were people in the queue who saw this because I've been given LOADS of room at the same junction since.

Its a 'competitive' thing - and the fact they are enclosed too !

I mentioned on another thread getting honked y'day - this was by a black cab, because in overtaking another cyclist I was impeding his progress to the red light about 20 metres ahead of us.

Don't bother looking at her - open a rear door and cycle on.
