I want a hub dynamo and I need it to be charge accessories (as well as powering lights), 12mm Thru Axle, centre lock disc, and 28 spoked.

SON seem to be the most recommended if not the cheapest.

The manufacturer suggests the SON28 would be the best for "when other devices are to be operated or their batteries recharged"

My issue is that the SON28 does not come with 12mm Thru Axle and centre lock, only the SONdelux does. The SONdelux suggests it is "specifically designed for prolonged use at high speeds".

I'm not the fastest rider and often I will be off-road so not going much above 10 mph a lot of the time.

Any thoughts as to if the delux would still be ok for me?

My Son Deluxe has no issues at very slow speeds for lighting. That won't be the same deal if charging a battery or device. I have made mine with piggy back connectors but I'm yet to try this.

My Shimano hub on the other hand powers a B&M light which has a USB port. It stops charging at slow speeds but the lights are still fine. I believe 7mph is your magic number. Surely you cycle faster than that? And it doesn't matter when you are climbing a hill, because you'll be fast enough on the flat or going down the other side. Temporary state of arse hairs.

Garmins tend to shut down when plugged into a slow moving hub. Be warned. If you need to charge it on the hoof, rather plug it into a battery.

The Shimano package was cheaper than the Schmidt set up.

There is the SONdelux 12 and 6-bolt and centrelock versions of the SP PD-8 in 12 mm axle
They also have 15 mm versions of the PD-8.

If you want to power or charge things and don't expect to be fast, I'd go SP over SONdelux. There's nothing in it efficiency-wise, and you would have to be going something like 27/20 = 1.35 times as fast to get the same power generated using a SONdelux (the design originally being aimed at 20" wheels)

I expect the thru-axle PD-8s will be common in a couple of years, but the above site is all I found other than the SP shop in Taiwan.
