I'm afraid I have to report the arrival of a ghost bike.

The place is the Woolwich Road roundabout underneath the Woolwich Road flyover, SE10.

The incident must have happened about 5pm on Friday night. The traffic was stacked back a mile or more when I rode home, and 4 hours later had not got any better.

It looks like the cyclist was either riding from East to West around the roundabout and something hit them on the A/M2 slip road, or they were crossing the slip road on the pelican crossing.

I can't find any details yet, but a ghost bike has appeared there this evening.

Truly shocking, I don't have the words for the people left behind.

The link dont work.

I saw a ghost bike a few months ago on Blackfriars Bridge.I reckon it wasn't for a recent incident on said bridge though.Feel free to correct me though.TIA.

Actually I remember a cyclist getting killed by a bus around the spot where I saw the bike .Although this happened in the 1990's I remember it well because it was a horrible scene.

Close overtake every morning by the highway maintainance lorry - no problem, drivers pulling out in front of me - no problem, kamikaze pedestrians - no problem, passengers shouting abuse down my earhole - no problem.

Coming across a ghostly white bike at the side of the road, now that would put me off cycling.

I passed what I'm guessing was a road fatality site this morning. Seemed a bit eerie that early in the morning. Seems very sad, guessing by the location it might have been a child. Further up the same road I passed another fatality site where someone was killed a couple of weeks ago.

It's hard to say with some Ghost Bikes, some people I know are supposedly preparing one for what happened quite a while back.

I rode past this afternoon. The white bike was placed yesterday by Greenwich Cyclists. They sent out a mail yesterday...

"Police were called on Friday evening May 15 to the junction of Woolwich Road and the Kent-bound A102(M) in Greenwich following a collision between a lorry and a female pedal cyclist, a police spokesman said.

London Ambulance Service attended. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police had not yet been able to establish her identity.

The lorry did not stop at the scene. It is described as having blue material (e.g. canvas, or plastic sheeting) on its side.Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist police should call the Collision Investigation Unit at Catford Traffic Garage on 020 8285 1574.

Greenwich cyclists have placed a white bike and flowers at the scene."

I passed there on Friday night on a bus on the way to the O2. The bike was by the pedestian crossing at the bottom of the slip road, and the cops has put up a "tent" where the roads join at the top of the slip road.

Absolutely horrific.

Well the 'good news' is that there are at least 10 traffic congestion cameras along the next 5 miles of that road, they know the time so there can not be that many lorries fitting that description that have to be traced.

One just hopes they acted fast enough, as it's also the main route down to Dover, and it's possible that truck was on a ferry within 90mins of the 'accident'.

One can only feel for the family, who, so far as we know, are totally unaware of the events of Friday night. One assumes the Police are waiting for somebody to realise she has not turned up for work tomorrow and contact someone to find out why she has not arrived.
