Thanks everyone. Wow, what great advice....I am lucky that when I split up with my ex everything was in my name. I popped along to see a solicitor who said as my situation was so straight forward she wouldn't charge me for the consultation (all of 5 minutes long) I was entitled to everything as, for the want of a better phrase, Dawn had been living with me 'rent-free' for ten years. I did see her right in some respects like giving her the older of our two cars (paid for by me, of course). I shall take all this advice on board and get to it.
