Hi all,

This isn't so much a question about touring or expedition riding, but this seemed like the most likely forum to produce a result.

I live on the Isle of Wight and my daughter is starting university in Oxford next week. I'm hoping to cycle up to visit her at some point, but not having ridden that area previously, I'm not sure what would be the best and most cycling friendly route from Southampton to Oxford.

Ultimately I'd like to ride a fairly direct route, but would certainly like to avoid the A 34. I would be looking to make the trip up to Oxford in one day, stay overnight and then cycle back in a day, so there is no requirement to build in an overnighter en-route.

Would be using a road bike, so gravelly cycle paths and tow paths would be less favourable than Tarmac.

Thanks in advance for any help some of you more experienced tourers and mainland riders might be able to give.
