Southend - mecca of the east?

Leigh On Sea is quite pleasant, especially some of the pubs down by the cockle sheds. Can't believe The Grand has closed down, used to be my regular.
Last time I went to Southend the Woolworths was still an empty shell.
For some reason the tackiness appeals to me. When I tire of London I may return there.

I went to Southend last summer for a day ...i saw no reason to return

Perhaps i missed the best bits. i found the same with Cowes on the IoW...really looked forward to visiting it, and when i got there...i thought 'whats all that about then'
