I like the phallic gherkin, I also like the Lloyds building close to it. I'm just hoping that it doesn't lead to a plague of "iconic" buildings all over London. It seems every major development has to look more extreme than the last.
A few dotted around is far more aesthetically pleasing.

What's the name of that grotesque but alluring block of flats with high level walkways joining the blocks, just north of the Blackwall Tunnel?

Robin Hood - and the subject of a campaign to have it listed. A monster, and impossible to negotiate with a pram.......

I do love Trellick Tower, though, and the Guys tower.

Good thread rich - this is expanding into a gentle paced appraisal with anecdotes - a lovely read. Come on Chris, let's have a bit more 'socio-sordid' offering from the bedlam of Southend! Somewhere, I have a selection of those funfair wristbands...meanwhile, I'm going to get my camera and post a photo of something I noticed happening near Crossrail Central, aka Tottenham Court Road.

Here's a bright selection, opposite Centrepoint. I hadn't noticed this happening - stealth colouring in! Nearby is The Angel pub, where I used to make money playing darts thirty years ago, and not far from the Tin Pan Alley club - one of two places to get a drink in the afternoon in the 'good old days' when pubs closed and we had to go back to work.

dillzeqq was only confirming that he knows his onions when it comes to the Gherkin - he's mustard.
