Was doing the washing up when I heard a loud shrill.
Looked out of my window to see a Sparrowhawk pulling feathers out of a poor Blackbird.
I watched it for a couple of minutes plucking the Blackbirds feathers before it flew off.
Had them in my garden before, beautiful birds.
Felt sorry for the poor Blackbird though.

we often have them swoop through the rear garden , but have never seen a catch though

We get them in the garden from time to time too. They can be really cheeky sometimes - hiding in the bushes near the bird table for example.

This one seems quite at home:

Saw one devour a sparrow in my garden a few years ago.

Whilst it is brutal, and my Mum hates it, for me there is some kind of beauty about the completeness of nature in wathing a sparrowhawk in action. Without them, there would be too many sparrows.

Sometimes the sparrowhawk doesn't win.

Sometimes they do.*WARNING* video contains blood.
