I’ve been riding about on my new BMC carbon road bike and loving it. As with my Giant Defy 2 road bike, I’ve fitted it with SPD-SL pedals. The pedals on my BMC seem to be really stiff and, at first I put this down to them being new. However this morning, I noticed at the back of the pedal there is a “switch” looking thing with 3 settings. The SPD SL pedal on my Giant is set to the upper one whereas the SPD SL pedal on my BMC is set to the middle one. What I wanted to ask was:

Is this a “switch” thingy and is it there to enable you to adjust the tension of the pedal for clipping/unclipping?

No information on the box?
Change the setting and see if any different?
Or they could be stiffer because they are new?
Exact same pedal on both bikes?

There's always a YT vid through Google
