Looking to replace my current saddle with this one. I want a comfortable saddle and have been looking at Selle Royale ones however the ones stocked in the UK seem to be the cheapie ones rather than the better ones i have seen on european bikes. so i have found this one: Specialized BG2 Sport Saddle:

What do people think? I am not worried about how much it weighs and i am fairly light 10 1/2 to 11 stone. So should not trash it too much.

I don't want a Brooks before anyone suggests one!

Any ideas?

Cheers.

I have heard good things about the Toupe, but is it not more of a race saddle? It looks a bit hardcore!? ? Could it be described as comfy?

I have a toupe on my race/weekend allez elite. Brilliant. Took me about a week to get used to it but can highly recommend it. It's padded - not a huge amount but enough to see me for 3 or 4 hours in the saddle.

As always try before you buy

I've got a Toupe on my Roubaix (came with the bike), and a Fizik Arione on my Sirrus (replaced the padded BG one that came with the bike).

Both of them are thin, fairly hard looking, but both are far better than any padded or thick saddle I've used.

I never managed to find anywhere that would let me try before I bought, so I bought a second-hand Arione cheap on ebay, then once I found I got on with it bought a new one (it was torn, but proved the shape worked for me).

Good luck with finding one that works for you.

I used to have a bg2 sport. Awful bloody thing. It's a one size fits all design which was too wide for me, had far to much padding and gave me really painful sit bones on anything over a few miles. My Toupe on the other hand is the most comfortable saddle I've ever owned by a long way. It's an armchair compared to the bg2 sport.

Don't be put off by hard saddles. Extra padding or gel doesn't necessarily mean more comfort. In fact, in my experience it's exactly the opposite.

If you need something cheaper than the Toupe then you could try the Specialized Alias which is similar in design and comes in different widths to suit your bum (make sure you get measured, don't just guess), or even cheaper again is the Charge Spoon which gets good reviews.

I've just changed the BG2 for the Toupe.

The BG2 was as comfortable as anything for rides up to 4 hours (i.e. as much as I ride). No problems at all. Perfect.

The toupe I'm struggling with, to be honest. No numb nuts (thank god) but painful on the "sit bones".

I'm persevering but I may have to admit defeat and go back to the BG2.

p.s. I've also had an Arione - absolutely awful! I thought my cock was going to drop off...

My current saddle is the Nisene Sport which for me feels like sitting on a piece of wood. I know that better cyclists hate padded gel style saddles but I am very much a beginner. Will have a look at the different ones in my local Specialized concept store and have a look.

I think it depends a lot on your position on the bike. If you prefer a more upright position more weight will be placed on your sit bones than if in a 'racier' position so I guess a more padded saddle might help.

Playing with the saddles position can help a lot too. Be prepared to move it forwards and backwards on the rails or tilt it up or down slightly. Some saddles that initially seem uncomfortable can become very comfy indeed just by moving it a few mm. I'm still playing with the saddle position on my new commuter.

Lots of pros still use the San Marco Rolls or San Marco Regals - not expensive, but comfy - I've got both...although about 370g in weight.

They are twice the weight of my Flite Ti, but much more comfy.
