EDIT SOLD SOLD SOLD.
Small - nay, tiny - Specialized Langster for sale. I bought this for my wife, which was a terrible idea as she isn't masochistic enough to push the single gear up the hills we have around here. It's all in working order, currently set up as a singlespeed but can be run as a fixed wheel by turning the wheel in the dropouts. Aluminium frame and forks, size XS, which equates to 49cm seat tube and 52cm top tube, near enough. Fitted with what appear to be almost new Continental Grand Prix 4 Season tyres. A cheap and cheerful entry to the world of fixed wheel riding. Asking for around £120. Collection from Ross on Wye preferred.

I love this and it would fit me but why would I not want gears? (genuine question). It’s BEAUTIFUL by the way!

I've done quite a bit of singlespeed and fixed wheel riding over the years, and would encourage you to give it a go if the bike appeals to you.

I find I never think about gears when I don't have them. I just pedal and my cadence varies depending on the terrain and the wind. A nice singlespeed or fixed wheel bike can run really well - they can be quite smooth and quiet.

Funnily enough, when I was a wee boy and some friends were getting bikes with gears, my mum said that gears were terrible (she'd probably had a bad experience with a 3-speed Sturmey Archer or similar!) so my parents bought me the singlespeed version of a bike which was available in either a singlespeed or 3-speed version.

The bike I've ridden my most ambitious rides on was a fixie. I bought it as an old singlespeed from a bike shop owner after a brief test ride. I thought it was slightly too big for me, but it rode like a dream - I'd never experienced anything like it, so I had to buy it (for £60). I later converted it to fixed, and did quite a few audax rides on it, including some hilly rides.

It does seem to be a nice looking bike. You might have to change the gearing to suit your preference, and perhaps you'd benefit from shorter cranks (they look quite long for a small frame), but you could see how you get on.

I’d love this for a work bike but I’m 5’7” so be too small. My bikes are generally 52cm.

You might be able to make it fit. I'm nearly 6 feet tall and I rode it back from the shop when I bought it with no trouble. It's down to £90 now, I just need it gone!

There's just something about the simplicity of it. I ride fixed quite a lot and I really like it. Unless you've tried it it's hard to understand the appeal!

Sticking to one gear is a lot of fun... as long as you avoid steep hills!

I haven't dared try fixed (yet) but I think that would be even better. You would have the choice on that bike by flipping the rear wheel round.

Fixed around hebden bridge you'll be mad!!!

The valley roads would be good (apart from the traffic and poor road surfaces!). Climbing up through Cragg Vale would be good too but descending to Littleborough would be scary... I would have to pedal at 180+ rpm, or brake a lot and ruin the descent!

I wouldn't fancy the steeper climbs though!

No way, I’d have an accident but they are flip flop hub so a nice single speed can be enjoyed.
