Hi all.

I´ve been going back and forth in my search for my first serious bike.

I live in Iceland so the option of nailed tires and better grip would extend the use of the bike.
But would like to be able to but race tires on when I can.

There for I have been looking at Cyclocross and the Specialized Secture (since it has the option on bigger tiers) Do any of you have tips and pointers on these bikes or any other that would fit the bill and stay close in budget...?

Thanks!

The secteur is not a cycle cross bike, the Crux is specialized entry into this market.

I would rather take the cube over the secteur, but would take a Crux over the cube.

You mention budget but don't state what this is which prohibits others from making suggestions.

Thank you.

I knew the Secture was not a cyclocross, but it has the option of bigger tiers, It leas the salesman told me so

I has thinking of a budget around 1600 USD +/-

I´ll look into the Crux. thanks for the comment!

Just bought a secteur last week, it is a very good condition second hand bike, pleasantly suprised with the comfort as I expected it to be a bit more of a boneshaker ( my other two bikes are sp crosstrail and sirrus ) weight wise would say it is on a par with the sirrus even though only front forks are carbon on secteur. The secteur seems to be a quick bike although I haven't tested it on the hills of Yorkshire yet!

There's more to being a cross style road bike than just having bigger tyres- things like cross brakes, off road gearing and frame geometry will all affect your ability to simply hit the rougher stuff.

Have you considered a Specialized Tricross, if it is a cyclocross style bike you are looking for? It can take wider tyres (I have run mine up to 38mm on the standard rims, and 25mm at the other extreme). A fine "do it all" bike IMHO!

Our Specialized dealer did only have one type of CX bike left and not in my size. He said that Specialized could not provide CX bike until next winter. Because they focus there factory on road bike now... There for I took them of my list... Don´t know if that is right or not...

For a company focused on road bikes, they are doing pretty poorly the most recent four bike releases by Specialized were not road bikes.
I would take the dealer of the list personally. The crux and tricross are both available now and in large numbers.
