I don't find the Whyte any more comfortable though. I am comparing my usual 12-15mile suburban lunchtime run.

I did 105km on a carbon roadbike yesterday, no way I could have done that on the flatbar. That's fine for up to 20 miles, further = roadbikes

Are you looking to go as fast as possible, join a club, run with the evening chaingang...I think you'll want a roadbike (just to fit in too)

How far did you ride this uncomfortable roadbike? What model was it? You are looking at spending £1000-1500, go ride an alu/carbon and a carbon endurance/sportive roadbike in the same price range and see what you think (something like a Cannondale Synapse, Giant Defy, Specialized Secteur/Roubaix)

Sirrus I had with disc brakes weighted a ton, the Elite disc which i sold due to that. Never did weight it but it felt a lot heavier than my MTB i had at the time which according to reviews was 12.5kg....

Just find one that's under 10kg and you'll be fine

I'd have a look at this myself, stick better wheels on it to lower the weight, but only 8.65kg stock

if you don't have to have disc brakes (carbon melts in the rain, disc brakes are only really helpful in the rain, so an impossible, unnecessary combo ;) )

Actually no one appears to have told Planet X this, 9.5kg

Nice, carbon melts in the rain?
how do you think this happens?

I have the Sirrus Elite 2014 model, I love it, I put spd's and bar ends on it, the furthest ride I've done is a 74 miler, tho I do kick myself now wishing I got a road bike, I never realised how much I love cycling and would love a club but the local ones they require road bikes to join.

I do recommend them they are good tho you can get better, but I had to get mine from evans, it was the best Hybrid in my price range at the time.

I bought a Sirrus in 2012, only because my bike was stolen and I needed something to tour on. I found the quality very poor (compared to all the other hybrids I've owned), screws turning to cheese, lacquer peeling off both frame and spokes at the lightest of touches, it looked like a 2 year old bike when I'd only ridden it for 3 weeks. On the other hand, it was a 1000 mile trip and I found it light, comfy and it functioned well.

I test rode a Sirrus last winter when I was looking for a new commuter. Decided against it (mainly because of the flat bars) but I was quite impressed, seemed like a fairly decent bike and not too pricey. If you go for one I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

If you want to go on longer rides you can always fit bar ends/aero bars/spinacis to give you some more varied and aero positions. It may raise a few roadie eyebrows but if it works for you, I say go for it!

I've done a few 50+ on my mtb but want to go further faster, but ddon't like the position on a road bike

I used a Sirrus for 10000 miles before buying a race bike and the position is no different apart from the narrower bars on the race bike which is actually better than the wider Sirrus bars.
