Aye, what will they do if a runner goes past at more than 10 MPH? Hmmm?

Oooow, I want a go.

There's a sign on my way to work that flashes your speed at you if you're exceding 30mph. I cannot go past this sign without trying to set it off.

Oddly I often seem to set the speed camera while riding to work, although I'm never travelling anywhere near 30mph.

if they were to put a sign up asking cyclists to be careful and give way to pedestrians would people on here obey it?

I personally would, feeling able to make progress when no one is about, but slow down or stop if i reach a group of people

They are doing those signs here without any speed problems. I think it's a waste of money to appease the moaners.

And to think of all the criticism shown here towards Safe Speed

You know who you are

Claire Armstrong, from the campaign group Safe Speed, said: ‘This is completely ludicrous and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
‘It’s just nonsense and I think cyclists will show the disrespect that it deserves.’

Even without signs, I'm careful and give way to pedestrians.... just common sense really.

My experience riding on the Bournemouth's promenade is that you always have to be on the look out for children and dogs specially in the summer months. However, there places in which you are safe to put your foot down!!!

The biggest nuisance for cyclists on the Bournemouth's promenade are dogs!!!

I use a shared use path and I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that cyclists are a nuisance on them, I tolerate it because occasionally I like to cycle on it. The speed differential between bikes and peds means as a ped you are always moving to one side for bikes. As a dog walker then you are constantly on the lookout for bikes in order to get the dog under control before they arrive. In return, I guess 50% acknowledge your effort and 25% don't and are going far too fast on the path anyway, treating you more or less as a mobile chicane. I'm rapidly starting to become a bit militant for the one's who aren't slowing down and step deliberately in their way, woe betide anyone that hits me. So I'm for making cyclists keep to the speed limit, no matter whether it's empty or not, tough sh!t.

We have a similar problem down my way. The women any a good proportion of men are usually good and do slow down, but there are a few who just bag through and totally disrespect others using the cyclepath.

As most of them are unlikely to be insured, I am very wary about getting in their way TBH

Crackle I'm afraid you sound a bit like the peanut who swore and threatened me on the York CC ride as I slowed and gave way to them. It's totally the wrong attitude to have. You're not in a park, you're on a route, you should constantly be looking out for other people/cycles/dogs/buggies. If you were on a road or a pavement parallel to the road the same would apply.
