Spokey twangs - when to replace wheels?

The wheels on my single speed were kindly donated by a friend who was chucking them out and they are pretty old (from an old Pug, maybe 30 years old). One was re-dished when the bike was converted to a singlespeed, and at the time I was warned that they were a bit knacked. They have flat bits where they've been clonked up kerbs (not by me!) and I seem to break a spoke at least once every three weeks.

So am I on a hiding to nuffink replacing spokes each time one snaps or should I just replace the wheels? This is my commuter bike so I'm more interested in strength than lightweight.

Any recommendations?

if you can afford new wheels, chuck 'em. There's a whole world of wonderful cheap factory built wheels out there that will last ten years without so much as a spoke key being turned in hope.

Considering how old they are, I think it would be false economy to rebuild them, buy some new ones.
(If you get from a shop they will/should retrue them after about 50 miles no cost.)
