Sponsered cycle 09/12 Newcastle-Cambridge

Hey, Im thinking about doing a Sponsered cycle from Newcastle to Cambridge in 2013 (sorry about the mistake in title)for Asthma UK but before i go Ahead and commit to this challenging task i Need a few things awnsered...

Routes what roads bicycles cant go on? such as dual carrigeways,motorways.. etc
Is it possible to rent or even get a half decent road bike sponsered to you?
Also for training is a bike you find in a gym suitible until i find a road bike?
and a good challenge time. example 6-7 days or is that quite lazy..

Liam, I am troubled by your message.

You have a lot of planning to do and a considerable amount of research.

Roads - you can not cycle on motorways or stretxhes of road where cycling is prohibited. Dual carriageways can be fine but they can also be horrendous as can many A roads. You need to plan a route using something like google maps using the pedestrian option, beware you can get some strange results! or the cycle option on www.viamichelin.com.

Yo might be lucky enough to get sponsoreship but you need to remember that we are in a recession and companies are more reluctant to part with their money. What can you offer to sponsors in return for their sponsorship?

Gym cycling is a poor substitute for the real thing.

As for a challenging time - that depends on your fitness. It's doable in a day if you are determined.

What about your accommodation?

Yes, i've been doing alot of research on road regs and what not, I get all of that now I've planned a route 234 Miles break that up into maybe 3 days so I have that sorted..

I'll be sleeping in a tent and as to a bike a might just get a cheap bike then because unless I get in the local news I have nothing to offer them bar a top with there logo and name on! lmao! have you got any suggestions?
