Don't know what Rory Mc and Darren Clarke are doing there ..aren't they Irish :-).. I was looking at that list and not a great year for English sport ..
2 Irishmen, 1 Scot, A Manx man, A South African, A Somalian, A Welshman, an AngloWelsh(A Cook), an Englishman whose brother boxes for Pakistan, and Luke Donald (who describes himself as half Scottish)...

I had to Google Chrissie Wellington, maybe that's the problem.

I understand this argument, but if people watching SPOTY see the likes of Wellington, Grainger & the Brownlees get an award or at least a segment on their competition they'll sit up and take notice, particularly young girls looking for a role model, because an interview with Chrissie W and people would see how much of a legend she is

a separate mens and womens award would avoid the controversy. Simple.

Do we then have a separate mens and womens team award? What about mixed teams?
