Now what is the difference?

That's right folks, unless you can see through the crap the media are telling you, you only believe cycling is for sporting types.

Don't take my word for it, see for yourself - Google image search the following and just look at the glaring difference between 'Dutch cycling' and 'British cycling'......

Now I know I got a bit @rsey on the VP retirement thread, for which I am sorry, but I truly believe that, unless we MASSIVELY change the public's perception of cycling, we will NEVER get the 2/3 wheeled nirvana enjoyed by our close neighbours in the low countries.

Or am I wrong?

It's a bit more complicated than that...

London

It's really noticeable over the last couple of years that we've turned a corner. There are still loads of slim men in lycra chafing at every red light, but more and more there are men and women of all sizes, shapes and ages using a bike as a tool to get from A to Z.

I believe Holland has a very healthy count of carbon and lycra on a weekend when people get out there "best" .

I see what you did there...but that's why it is so insidious, the corporate scum bods at 'British Cycling' don't call it 'British Sport Cycling' or 'British Cycle Sport Union'

You can't sell t-shirts, jerseys, team kit or logo'd bikes if the image of British cycling was one of an old man riding along a lane going to his allotment.....
