Been looking at getting a flat bar hybrid for a while, then decided to do a conversion job on my Secteur as I believe it is the same frame as a Sirrus anyway (and finally worked out that I am never going to be a roadie!). I can always change it back easily enough; but one reason I have done this is to free up a spare set of 9 speed Tiagra triple shifters which will suit either my Tricross or Ridgeback Panorama if the need arises.

Bought the bars (Easton EA50), Shimano Deore MTB shifters, and Shimano Tiagra brake levers from ChainReaction, and have just spent a couple of hours doing the conversion and I'm very happy with the results, although a road test won't be happening until the wind and rain decides to finally give us a break (Saturday looks a possibility).

One question though. I stupidly forgot that the MTB shifters don't have the "half gear" adjustment on the front derailleur which the Tiagra shifters had. So I'm getting some chain rub on the front derailleur when using middle ring and large sprockets. Is there a way round this? Do I need a MTB front derailleur? It's a Tiagra 9 speed triple road one that's on it just now.

My Sirrus has the half gear adjustment on it (feathering is it called?) (but it is a double not a triple), not sure if that is due to the shifters or the derailleur though!

What happens if you adjust it in slightly? Does it then fail to shift to the big ring, or do you get chain rub the other way?
Well done Adrian :notworthy:.
Overlooked the obvious when I fitted the new cable and had it too tight once it went to the middle ring. It's going to be close for clearance both ways once the chain is under tension out on the road, but it's a lot better than it was - on the kitchen floor test.

I'm not quite a lost cause, yet. I still have 2 drop bar bikes, but one is a cyclocross and the other a tourer. The stereotypical roadie stuff just isn't for me, so I'm adapting the fleet :okay:.

He's also painted his rear sprockets black.

I put it down to poor maintenance
