Spotted a 'Big Cat' earlier

I was driving my lorry on the M25 back to the depot, it was 6 a.m and light. A motorway footbridge was up ahead and a large animal was casually walking across. It was definitely a big cat. Bigger than a Lynx and about the size of a small puma. It was black, had a curved back, long tail which flicked up at the end and bigger than a large dog. My lorry reached the bridge as it reached the end of the footbridge and went into the field so I got a good look at it. Amazing.
Now I'm the first person to say "Yeah, yeah. Of course you did" when you hear these stories on the news but when you actually see it for yourself and your 100% sure you know what your seeing, it's pretty amazing.
Now take the p*** as much as you like!

It covered at least a square metre of tarmac.

I thought that, whenever these were investigated, there's no evidence of predation etc… Not that I don't think it's possible.

There are escapees out there, private zoos have "lost" big cats over the years they just try to keep quiet about the fact unless its a Lion or Tiger in which case marksmen are called in sharpish. To think that a Lynx or Puma etc would not survive is naïve but they're very wary of humans so not seen that often.

Ah. That makes sense, its why we never see lions grazing by the side of the M1, they make it too easy for the marksmen to find and shoot them. The black ones are far more elusive, and don't pose the same threat, so no one wastes bullets on them.

How close were you? How fast were you travelling? Did you have any reference by which to judge its size (height of the animal compared to the railings, for instance?) Have you ever seen a puma, or a lynx? Lynxs vary in size, but are tiny compared with pumas.

Their survival isn't an issue. That's easy. But to survive and establish breeding populations, and for those populations to make 2 or 3 kills per animal per week, and not leave any verifiable physical evidence? That's harder to credit.

Not bullets, tranquiliser darts . Have you any idea how much a Lion costs but you can buy Lynx for about a grand or could when a mate kept a couple a few years back. I think the laws changed but it was quite common then. The Malt Shovel in Barkby Thorpe had Monkeys out the back and they are far more dangerous to people.
