Now the spring seems to be arriving, can I suggest we all log dangerous potholes to our respective local authorities. It would be good to avoid another incident like this, from a letter in my local paper:

The week before Christmas my wife was cycling into Harpenden to do some shopping and came off her bicycle due to the condition of the roads when she hit a pothole. She suffered very serious facial injuries. She lost her bottom five teeth on impact and had a considerable amount of damage to her top teeth. She had to have a total of approximately 40 stitches to her nose, around her eye and to her lips, gums and tongue. During the subsequent surgery she had to have crushed bone removed from her gums. None of this would have happened had the roads been maintained in the state that they should have been.

In an hour today I logged & reported over 20 hazardous holes (at least 5cm deep) on the primary position line - in just a 5 mile ride.

 I'm pleased to report that all the holes I reported were filled by mid-afternoon today. My local highway Authority relies totally on people reporting holes, so if a hole exists for more than a couple of days it is because nobody has bothered to tell them. They don't want the risk of being sued over an accident when they know about the hole. I'd guess most work like that nowadays, so if you see a hole, tell them.

With http://www.fillthathole.org.uk it couldn't be much easier.
