Springsteen and acoustics at Wembley

I went Saturday and I have to say I was not that impressed, not with the man himself or his band, you can't knock him for effort or ability. Pretty much 3 hours non-stop, so big kudos for that.
The issue I had was the acoustics and view, I know it was an outdoor gig and Wembley stadium is large but surely in this day and age there shoukd be some technology that allows for a decent sound system in a large area. The view from level 5, right near the top and off to the rear right side was not great either, the screens at least meant you saw something but seeing the stage and anything/anyone on it was pretty difficult to say the least.

I'd imagine if you managed to get a spot square on to the stage it would have been good though.

So all in all good but no cigar.

Have to agree I was on the pitch and about 20 yards behind the barriers. Although plenty loud enough (unlike Hyde Park) the echo was terrible, especially when Bruuuuuuce was singing with little or no backing it sounded like he was yodelling. I keep nagging the missus (to no avail) not to bother with tickets for stadiums, arenas and festivals IMHO these venues are not the place to see/hear live music. 20 years ago when I was off my face on anything and everything it wasn't a problem but now I'm also old and getting grey. On the plus side the Boss was as good as ever and I got to see the new Wembley stadium for the 1st time, which as a West Ham fan will probably mean its also the last.

Will be in Hampden tomorrow night to see Bruce, will be my third Springsteen concert
Think it may be bit strange and sad without Clarence tho but I'm sure it wil be as brilliant as last two concerts

I saw Bruce Springsteen in Roundhay Park in Leeds and wanted to leave after fifteen minutes. The sound quality was atrocious. It was fading in and out possibly caused by the wind. I've never been to a gig before where you had to strain to hear the words. I was gutted. Springsteen was hero of mine at the time.

Sound quality at large venues can be excellent. Elbow and Muse seem to have it cracked. I still use the Led Zeppelin Knebworth concert as the benchmark for outdoor gigs. It was of one the biggest ever UK outdoor gigs with a sound delivered with clarity and plenty of volume.

No 5hit Shelock! It's unreasonable to complain about the view when you've got seats in the 'nosebleed' section. The seats should come with opera glasses. For what it's worth, despite the disappointing experience at Roundhay Park and the seats being in the 'nosebleed' section at the new Leeds Arena I'll bee seeing "The Boss" perform the opening gig. I'm looking forward to it and I am taking a set of compact binoculars to compensate for the distance though hopefully the seating layout will do as it's claimed - give a clear view to all without having to crane your neck.

I'm hoping that my love of Springsteen's music will be revived after it waned post Nebraska.

Yes I knew it wasn't going to be a great view, I have been in block 5 at Wembley before for a couple of football matches so I sort of knew it what to expect, I was just surprised at how poor it was. Also the light show as a bit school disco, but that's not what you go to see Bruce for I know.

I hope you enjoy the gig

Not sure I'd want to see Springsteen these days - it's a bit too close to parody and I can't really tell any of the last few albums from each other. I'd rather see Springsteen's old mucker Southside Johnny who still puts on a decent show.

Mind you, if I could travel back in time to see one gig, it would be one of the NJ gigs from 1978 when he was touring the Darkness on the Edge of Town album...(really gets going at 1:20)

Christ he looked young then!
Wembley was pretty full of old codgers like me, some even older FFS! My youngets daughter came along too, she's 21 and bought ear plugs! She wasn't the youngest there as far as I could see either

My third time seeing Springsteen

He was amazing, performance was best I have seen.He played from 7.30 until 11 without a break and his interaction with fans was beyond expectations.

Clarence's replacement Jake is good..however can't lace the big man's boots

I personally prefer standing concerts, better view providing your there in plenty of time.

Enjoy Vernon
