Hi

Can anyone help with advice on a safe place to download SPSS for windows from. SPSS is a package for statistics for use with psychology and social science

I went to Brothersoft.com on the web - has anyone used that before to download?

I am always really nervous about downloads since I mistakenly downloaded a virus that crashed my laptop and was really expensive to repair:sad:

thanks Guys

if you're nervous about downloading, how about getting it from the company that produces it?

http://www.spss.com/uk/

hope this helps.

Genuine copies are obviously best. If you are in education and you require it for your studies your education provider may offer if it to you for free under a site license. I'd certainly ask them for it. If you require it for work your employer should provide. If you love statistics you could try another package although the only other one I know is Stata which is also not free.

As was said educational institutes may offer it for a small sum such as £5. I would recommend R, which can even be used in conjunction with later versions.

Crickey, forgot all about SPSS. Chuffin hated the package. I have the workbook somewhere still. If I recall correctly it was version 7 when I last looked on Windows 95!

R also has the advantage of being free, but don't down load until tomorrow when the new version is released...

We still support this, and still hate it. We use version 16 at the mo. 17 is out I believe. Don't mention the problems we had when students wanted it working on their own vista laptops .

Your fault surely, nobody forces you to use it. I was surprised at the number of silly arts departments that religiously used it to almost universal grumbling and misunderstanding . Why I think some of the suggestions on here are pretty good.

If only I were in charge... We'd be ruined . Sadly departments ask for software (Psychology mainly for SPSS in our case) and we provide it centrally. We don't offer teaching support but we do offer technical support. The dividing line is a grey area :hugs:. We actually supply R centrally too but SPSS is the one they want and use. I also personally hate Endnote .
