Squeaky brakes

Heading into work today and approaching a set of red lights I had a quick look behind before slowing down to stop and spotted another rider very close behind me. Hear a big squeak from the road bike behind and then the rider saying that my brakes should squeak when stopping so that other people know I'm stopping. Does anyone actually make their brakes squeak for this? I would have thought if your relying on squeaky brakes to judge if someone is stopping then your probably not paying enough attention to the road

I think someone's taking the water. I regularly clean my blocks and rims to keep my brakes silent.

My son has Vocal Screech brake blocks on his BMX....Make a bloody horrible noise.

Simply attach mice to your brakes in such a way as to give them a good pinch when applying. This creates a squeal without having to compromise braking performance.

Mine used to squeak when I first got my bike, but it has stopped now. My journey begins with rolling down a steep hill and it was quite embarrassing squeaking loudly all the way down the hill at 7am each morning

I thought this was such a good idea that I have connected my brakes to my Airzound button. Only problem is that the air runs out very quickly so I now avoid using the brakes until I can top up at the next service station. I'm expecting some great PBs over the next few days.

jens voight's brakes squeaked once but this was because they were placed on his bike and were worried about never, ever being used...

Squeaky brakes on a road bike are a no no. So much so the idiot hasn't fitted them at all properly, or is using carbon rims.

Some of these post's have made me laugh, will defiantly consider investing in some squeaking mice. Didn't think it was anything but was just checking

There's a reason for the term "squeaky clean", you know, particularly for bike cleaning . I sometimes get squeaky brakes after a bike clean, even when the pads are angled correctly. Sometimes it's due to the wheel rims having a trace of dirt left on them after being wiped clean. So don't just pay attention to keeping the brake pads clean, but also the wheel rims.

I've got disk brakes which squeak in the wet - I have to admit it has at least made the occasional pedestrian/car who have stepped out without lookin/pulled out in front of me, notice me (and in the case of the pedestrian they jumped at the noise)! However I prefer the quiet of normal braking.
