Sram mtb x5 shifters

I've got sram x5 shifters on mtb and need a new rear mech, my mate has ashimano slx one but I don't know ifif they are compatible?

Can anyone advise?

No they won't be compatible. SRAM use a cable pull ratio of 1:1 compared to Shimano's 2:1 so you won't be able to index it.
