Rival* ive rode red and rival and ill tell you shifting is the same, and im very picky with components (if set up correctly) sram takes alot of tweaking. braking isnt as good but you can get rival discs ect the only penalty is weight. Yes i would go red or force if i couod afford it but rival is excelling if you dont mind not having the top of the range kit.

As for apex i personally wouldnt have it id much rather 105

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Sram-...734?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item567513beb6 Minus chain and cassette, but they incuded mine for abit less, i dont know how on earth its so cheap but its genuine. The sell the old apex for more money they must be mad. But i got a dispatch email from rutland cycling when i bought it.

Well it's going on an existing bike which certainly won't have discs. I'm fine with the braking and shifting on the apex. I don't even ride the bike much so it's an extravagance especially when adding in the fitting cost

I need to know what BB I might need, or can I just use the existing? Another stupid question, can I use the existing 10 speed chain and cassette, not done much more than a thousand dry miles

Yes you can use your existing one if its sram just find out of it is bb30 or gxp  youd need a 11speed chain and cassette though, tried this just yesterday it doesnt shift properly as i just got a 10 speed wheel. I had to take a cog out of my 11 speed instead, you can pick up shimano 105 11 speed cassettes for £20-25

Yeah it says gxp on it. Think I have a spare one too from the rival on the Genesis, because I went for a fancy gunmetal hope one to match the bikes colours scheme

Totally disinterested in mechanics as well as hamfisted (not to mention crocked with biceps tendinitis in one shoulder and a painful trapped nerve in the other hand)!
