Hi Flyer5

I'll probably wait for the schools to go back before I venture out and before the campsites/b&bs close down. I haven't cycled much in France apart from borrowing a bike from a friend and tootling along the backroads south of Bergerac - enjoyed it immensely. I've scoured the IGN map, Nord Pas-de-Calais 52 cycle routes & Camping-France extensively. The geography looks interesting all round that area so I'd like to give it a go. I'm impressed by some of the posts from people on CC who just go - very inspiring.

Hope all goes well with your planning & eventual trip.

Regards.

The FFCT (French equivalent of the CTC) had their Semaine Fédérale there the year before last. You should still be able to get details on that. St Omer is itself flat, and it is fairly flat to the north and east but nevertheless with some fairly vicious hills, to the west it is quite hilly. There are quite a lot of sites connected with the two world wars. It is an interesting area, not very touristy, if you like Belgian beer there is a lot of choice from the local brews, and it is not that far from Belgium.
