My 35 year old BMW R65, been sat outside throughout the winter, hasn't moved since September. Charged up the battery, turned the key, pushed the button, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMM!
This thread gives hope to those like me who've had a car stuck there for months without once turning the battery over! I'm going to do it tomorrow, let's hope nothing has seized over mechanically wise!
I forgot to mention my Lister stationary engine which started first spin of the flywheel after cleaning the points following four years of inactivity. No battery charging needed - it has magneto ignition.

I used to work for a company that supplied products that contained Lister Petter engines to the construction industry. It was the spec of choice for far flung sites like Africa with zero spares support and a tradition of bodge it up maintenance. Never used to go wrong, unlike the more sophisticated Yanmars.
Problem was that they were hand crank start so if that went missing, it was a long wait for a new one
A friend of mine has a Skud which hasn't moved for the same length of time. He is convinced that it will fire up with no problem .... but the battery is dead, and it's electronic door locking ... and he can't open any of the doors ... and the bonnet release us under the steering wheel ... and he can't charge the battery.
I've offered him a tenner for it, because my neighbour has a fifteen year old son with a hoodie.
