Ian,

I've invested in some NightVision kit - I found the bibtights comfy but the ones I got started to lose the reflective trim on my right thigh after a couple of rides - managed to get them replaced without any quibbling from the Cycle Store in Congleton, 'Inshallah' the replacements will do the business this Winter.

I particularly like the attachment on the back of the jacket to hang a flasher on and weight/comfort wise you hardly notice it there - happy days (and nights) :-)

Also keep your knees warm during the Winter months and invest in a good pair of overshoes (Neoprene is good).

Yeah, go for it. One thing I would add - as well as ice, watch out for animals, and not just the small ones. I rounded a bend one dark night to find a gigantic stag standing in the middle of the road, eyes glowing in my lights and steam blasting from its nose. Didn't help that this lane was reputed to be haunted by "the barguest" (Mythical Yorkshire demon dog). ;)

Brilliant! So after messing up your saddle, what happened?

A car came along behind him, and he just sort of casually looked round at it and then trotted off up a wooded lane. I exchanged a 'blimey' look with the driver of the car who looked as shocked as I felt.

This was on the road out of Oakworth leading to the Grouse Inn above Keighley, if anyone knows it. Funnily enough, the road is called Hob Cote Lane - 'Hob' being the Yorkshire dialect name for pixie/elf or otherwise supernatural being which didn't make me feel any more relaxed.
