Hi,
Anyone out there from America or Canada? I have been back in the saddle a few months now and working my legs hard. I ride a fixed gear and am looking to cross the US and come back across Cananda. The wife and I are taking our little one (3) to all 50 states and as many Canadian states as possible for 6 months. The wife is doing the easy bit (), driving the van, while I do it by bike. I want my little one to explore the world and America has so much to offer and is an English speaking country so is great for doing such a trip. I travelled the world for 2 1/2 years about 10 years ago, and life and travelling can have difficult moments without worrying about a bike, a wife, a three year old, foreign languages, local customs etc.

I am looking for an American friend who can help with planning, ideas of places worth seeing, types of roads to stick to on a bike, laws I may not know about, things like that. In return I can offer the same to you about the UK. A home base, lots of ideas and help getting about etc for your trip around our small island.

Here are over 500 links to information about bike touring in the US.

Obviously, not all of them will be of interest to you but there are links for every state in the US that should give you a start on your plan.

Here are over 60 links to information about bike touring in Canada.

It sounds like a great trip. Have a good time!

I would be weary about laws regarding bike lanes - apparently in a lot of areas if they have bothered to paint one, you MUST use it.

Other than that I'm clueless but I will say this - i'm incredibly envious, and I hope you have a brilliant trip.

Well I would never say never to anyone who has the time and cash to join me. If you feel you can get the essentials together then there would always be a place for you and your bike (and her needs) in our van. Fancy it?

Unfortunately I have commitments like education and my non bike touring fiancée, as well as my horrific fitness  I also have no money either unfortunately. Student life eh...

Thank you for the offer though - it sounds amazing.
