Is following him compulsory then?
No, but this was in the early days, and I couldn't really see the point of twitter. People regarded him as the best thing on twitter, even a reason to join. My feeling was "if he's the best thing about twitter, how bad must the rest be?" Decided not to find out.

I've met him briefly, had a quick chat with him, he struck me as a very modest, shy and a little insecure. I liked him. As for his shtick I can't comment, I've never read anything he's written and have not watched him on TV for about 10 years. He seems harmless enough.

He's a good actor. I too admire his mental health work. I love it when he hosts the BAFTAs, he's hilarious. His position in the meeja means his more stupid pronouncements get a lot of air, so he's always going to be a bit Marmite. He believes in kindness, but as coffeejo says, he's very flawed. OK by me.

A treasure yes, but only because he should be put back where he was dug up from. Like most of his type he is very self obsessed, also rather smug.

I've always liked him, seems up for a bit of leg pulling on QI.
His sketch shows with Fry and Laurie were better than I remembered when I watched them back recently.
And was great in Blackadder. Here he is in some outtakes - starts at 1.20 - I love the bit where he says "you total turd, leave the room"

I was just curious. Personally, I find his "look at me, aren't I a jolly clever chap and a brilliant wordsmith" act relentlessly tedious. It's as though he's trying to be Oscar Wilde or Brian Sewell without much success. He's probably better at spelling than I am though. I tick box two.
