I have been searching for that perfect 2nd bike for several years now. Still can't believe that I only have 1.

This is the latest spec:
Hybird - meaning road bike with flat bars. I know that flat bars are the work of the devil, invented by people who have never casually lifted their arms horizontally infront of them and seen what angle their hands are at, but I am looking at getting one of those child seats where they sit between the stoker and the handlebars. Whilst there is nothing in the design that stops it being used with drops, recommended that you don't, as the position isn't suitable.
Hub gears. I want an easy commuting machine that will take all-year round abuse without going out of adjustment or wearing chains as badly.
But still want something that can be ridden on roads up and down hills for a good distance.

Currently looking at the Charge Grater 3 2014 or equivalent. Chain Reaction Cycles have a Creme Tempo Doppio City Bike that looks right.

Any other ideas, or recommendations or otherwise on the two choices above?

Disc brakes would be nice too.
