A friend of mine had his front forks and wheel stolen from his work cycleshed, (supposedly 'secure' parking for bikes!) in September 2013.
The thieving scum apparently took about an hour to cut through the locks, dismantle part of the bike then cycle off with a pricey set of front forks, the wheel and tyre! So much for security..
Anyway, a short while ago he was walking up a road from his house into town for summat, and, guess what.. there were his front forks up for sale in a 'Cash/Exchange' shop about 100 yards from his house!
After making certain they were actually his, by noticing the scratches and marks on them, he got in touch with the police and reported finding them.
Plod duly went with him to the shop and, after initially denying that they were stolen goods, the shop owner gave him his forks back and had to produce the paperwork to show who they had bought them from.

Needless to say, he's quite happy even though he had to buy new forks when these ones were stolen.

Result, eh?!

Good news! Is any action going to be taken against the shop/thief?

Good result. One would think that the first port of call for the police for looking for stolen stuff would be those pawn/Cash shops and t'web

I don't know how you prove your ID if you sell stuff to these establishments, but they do seem to attract a dubious type of clientele...

If any more info comes to light regarding prosecution etc. I will post the details. In fact, I'm over to his place Saturday morning so I'll find out.

Two forms of ID, with matching addresses, for the local Cash Convertors. Also take a telephone number from you.
Similar shop nearby has been done for handling stolen property.

Nice to get the stuff back though.

It is, but they're not always forthcoming with the information we ask for, and if we circulate details of stolen property to keep an eye out for they often, er, forget to inform us when they accidentally buy it.

The handlebars weren't taken, just the forks and wheel. Considering the price of bars, levers etc. It's surprising. Maybe it's all the people/person could carry on a bike?
