Just noticed this forum and thought it may be a good idea to post here.

On Thursday 24th September 2009 I bought I brand new Claud Butler Urban 300 (2009) from my LBS. When I got up the next morning my shed had been broken into and despite being double locked the bike was gone

This was from the Mile Cross are of Norwich, Norfolk.

Looks like communal sheds. Not the sort of place to leave a bike with out locking it to a ground bolt.

Not that it helps but this bike hasn't been on Norwich Gumtree / FreeAds (my RSS reader still has posts from that time). My eBay saved search only looks for road bikes so don't know about that.

If I lived in Mile Cross, the bike would definitely live inside my property with a lock on, if at all possible. Too many light fingers round those parts.

Bad luck tmcd... who knew about your new bike or was it stolen as part of a bigger haul?

The people working at the LBS surely had information of his address..... but that is unlikely.... somebody must have seen him putting the bike away.

Thanks Colin, I've been periodically checking out both eBay and Gumtree with no luck. Also tried a few second hand shops like Cash Convertors and Secondhand Land - no joy

Unfortuantly I live in a first floor flat so have very few options on where to store a bike.

Yep someone saw me put the bike in the shed. There is a prime suspect (a neighbour) but no proof. ahhhh. At least I'd insured it before/as it was stolen and they are paying out.

No not put off. As I say the insurance is paying out so I'm currently pacing up and down awaiting delivery of my new set of wheels. I've already got the lights, mudguards, d-lock and computer awaiting fitting when the bike gets here...

I had my bike stolen in Norwich a few weeks ago and since then I've discovered that it seems to be a huge problem around here

That just means you need something light enough to carry up stairs ;)

Whereabouts was it stolen from? I've heard that around the Forum / Playhouse are hotspots but that's probably because there's a lot of bikes with feeble locks. I don't think it's that bad overall though, there's opportunist scum in any city.

Keep checking ebay, gumtree & local press, as well as the usual secondhand places around. Also, check with the local bike shops, such as Pedal Revolution, Specialised Cycles, John Borwell, etc and ask if they can keep an eye out in case it's brought in for work? If you're putting a bike in a shed, may I recommend this:-

WCMnr's basic MTB that he used for the commute from his Norwich house to uni campus last year was nicked from where he was living - I have my suspicions as to who did it, but I can't prove anything.

Or taking the photo?

Sorry to hear about your loss - tmcd35.

I live in a first floor flat and it doesn't bother me carrying my bike up and down the stairs - you get used to it / don't think about it.

What are you getting to replace it?(and don't take it's photo outside it's open lock up!)

Mile Cross - 'nuff said!

I have a Felt QX75 on order with Evans. Just waiting for the insurance vouchers...

What it needs is its own bedroom!
If only there was enough room inside the flat ;) No, Ive opted to remove the wheels and D-Lock the fram to the railing outside my fron door. I have a recording CCTV camera above the door pointing at the railings.
