Half the comments I've had have been sex or financial spam. Thats deleted immediately after I check whats awaiting approval. So I wrote a post a while back about loops and triggering traffic lights and got this strange comment:

Bicycle lights are very important because it provides the rider with an indication and illuminates the roadway in dark conditions. Moreover such lights are good because they are the forms of reflectors and or a reusable source of light

Eh? Whats that got to do with traffic lights, LOL??

They were maybe advocating that you take the traffic lights apart and mount them to your bike ?

Maybe the name of the commenter was shown as John Smith in the anchor text but 'under' that there was a link to BuyBicycleLights.com? ;)

I checked out their username on blogger and no links that I could find. I'd understand if it was spam, but this was totally irrelevant.

I like the idea of reflectors being a re-useable source of light. Next time someone questions my green credentials, I'll point to all the reflective tape on my bike and boast about how much light I re-cycle.

We get a lot of spam like that on the electric car forum I admin on.

There are all sorts of posts very loosely relating to the thread subjects but in closer inspection they are just spam and not new members with poor English.

They're SEO software spam. Darn nuisance too.

The writer is probably in India or the Phillipines and all day long they type comments anywhere that comments can be typed in the hope of creating links to the client's website.

This, they tell their client, will make their site Google's favourite for that search term... it won't but the SEO snake oil salesmen can make some convincing cases.

If they find that your site isn't moderated expect a deluge. We get about 200 a day even though all of our sites are moderated.
