Watching Family Guy and they had another cut to Conway Twitty. Curiosity took me to google, thence to Wikipedia and: "Conway Twitty (September 1, 1933 – June 5, 1993), born Harold Lloyd Jenkins, was an American country music artist."

Ok, so you're Harold Lloyd Jenkins and you decide Harold Lloyd Jenkins doesn't fit your C&W ambitions, so you need a new name. So you rack your brains...

.....this is a life-decision...

....and you come up with...

Conway Twitty?

Is that any more stupid than Elton John or Simon Cowell?

*cough*

I like Conway Twitty , 'the best friend a song ever had' - cut some great albums in the late 60s and 70s if you like that kind of shite, started off as a rocker in the 50s

If you've wiki'd him you'll know he took his name from a roadmap. Worked for Witney Houston too, small market town in Oxfordshire and city in Texas

Hmmm.... so Maurice Micklewhite should have remained as .... Maurice Micklewhite?

Haven't you guys ever heard of Equity? They have some rule or other, that all performers have to register an unique name. I read a story about Harry H. Corbett (Steptoe & Son etc.). Apparently he started life as simply "Harry Corbett" without a middle name, but there was already a performer named "Harry Corbett" (Sooty) in the books. So he had to insert the 'H' - which didn't stand for anything (rather like Harry 'S' Truman).

You have to look at your own user names on CC (and other forums) to see the same reasoning.

I think Michael Jackson should be Michael B Jackson as a stage name as there was a singer of that name already. Apparently the bloke makes a nice living off wrongly directed royalty cheques!

I think Willie Nelson is in fact an illegal wrestling move.
