Flew to Strasbourg! We put the bikes back together and cycled the 8 miles or so into the city centre! I’ve been here before but had forgotten quite how beautiful it is! Popped into a local bike shop to inflate the tyres properly. Went out for ice-cream and sat in a euro cafe with a kir. About as happy as a girl can be right now!

We’ve started this year’s tour, from Strasbourg to Nice via Annecy and Ventoux. I’m so excited! I’m going to try and do a little post each day and add a photo each day!

I hope you're not just going down the Rhone valley as you'll be missing out on some stunning scenery and fantastic climbs going that way. Make sure you also go up the Col du Forclaz above Lake Annecy!

Do you know roughly when? Hope you're ready for canicule - high 30s this next week here... it's the evenings when it's still >30C at 8pm I don't like, as it's hard to get the house back down to a sensible temperature overnight (it's currently 34C outside & a balmy 23C inside, without air conditioning).

A rest day because my son wanted to go to Europapark and if you drag a 15 year old across Europe on a bike, it’s only polite to let him do stuff! My husband gamely went along with him. Rollercoasters are not my thing so I got the train to Freiburg and had a mooch around that gorgeous city! Had a lovely day! Back on the bike tomorrow.

66 miles from Rust to Weil am Rhein. 60 were delightful. 6 were tiresome. Wonderful cycling today…flat but pretty, always something to see. In awe of German bike infrastructure. It’s so good. So practical. So well thought out. Saw my first red squirrel. Weil is a bit uninspiring but we caught up with an old work colleague after 20 years so that was lovely!

64 miles from Weil am Rhein to Biel/Bienne. Cycled over the bridge to France for 2 miles and then into Switzerland. Basel was a blur of trams and bikes and after 16 miles of suburban riding (some of which was very pretty) we hit the first big climb of the trip, the Oberer Hauenstein, which wasn’t massive but was plenty big enough for us today! Really enjoyed it! Dropped down the other side and then had 30 hot miles down the valley to Biel/Bienne (it’s bilingual so has two names). A really beautiful day today…Switzerland is utterly gorgeous!
