61 miles from Biel/Bienne to La Sarraz. We cycled along two lakes today but really didn’t get to see very much of them…the lake shores were lined with holiday villages. It was all every pretty though and we did find a gorgeous little beach for our picnic and a paddle! The highlight was the fairytale village of Estaveyer le Lac! I was blown away! We faded a little in the heat for the last hour or so but did pretty well otherwise! Need an early start tomorrow to avoid the intimidating temperatures tomorrow!

Kids these days, they don't know they're born.

(Memories of holidays trudging up Welsh mountains in the pouring rain with never so much of a glimpse of an opportunity to do stuff)

I know I’m biased because I think he’s fabulous but he cycled 100km today in 34 degree heat. He was clearly suffering in the heat but he never moaned at all! Such a star!

46 miles from La Sarraz to Geneva. The forecast is bonkers for this afternoon so we left at 7am to avoid the worst of it. Lovely cycling through farm land, vineyards and villages. Some beautiful views of Lac Leman, and a cracking ice-cream in pretty Nyon. Met two nice cats. Holed up now in our Geneva hotel until it cools down when we will venture forth for an explore!

Thursday 14th

A short day today. 33 miles from Geneva to Annecy but 2,500 feet climbing so a big day out for us. Gorgeous weather and we arrived safely at our Airbnb before the heat really kicked in for the afternoon. Really enjoyed the climbing and felt good (slow but good). Wonderful to see the BIG mountains in the hazy distance!

We are here in Annecy (my favourite place in the whole world) for three nights /two whole rest days! I won’t post pics during the rest days but we are very glad for the time off. It’s been a fabulous first week - 325 miles roughly in a week and a lot of fun!

A rest day because my son wanted to go to Europapark and if you drag a 15 year old across Europe on a bike, it’s only polite to let him do stuff! My husband gamely went along with him. Rollercoasters are not my thing so I got the train to Freiburg and had a mooch around that gorgeous city! Had a lovely day! Back on the bike tomorrow.

OMG , I'm sure i was at the same bar on the hill hearing the cathedral bells. One of my best memories when I did the Rhine route.

Sunday 17th

Had to glorious rest days in beautiful Annecy, was very sad to leave this morning but back on the bikes! Our longest day at 68 miles but 67 of them were downhill and probably 65 were on bespoke bike paths that wound between walls of mountains so it was relatively easy and one of the loveliest days on the bike ever. Views!!! However this is our last ‘normal’ day as far as elevation goes. Tomorrow we climb and I am a bit nervous!
