With a bit of work the police could maybe catch the criminals responsible.
Since Strava probably has a log of all the pages accessed on it's site then the police could check for common users on pages used to garner information to identify the location of the bikes. This might allow them to trace the criminals IP, who probably do not realise everything they do on the internet is logged somewhere.

I've set the biggest privacy zones possible on them.

Out of interest, when you allow someone to follow you does the privacy zone still work? I've always assumed it doesn't as I can see all my friends complete tracks - unless they don't bother with the zones?

Don't list the exact spec of your bikes. Putting 5 grand Cervelo if you keep it in the garage wouldn't be the most sensible approach.......

I think they just don't use zones. I can't even see my own routes without the privacy zone.

If you know what you are doing, it's fairly easy to get around the privacy zones.
