I'm not arsed either way, I have way more important things to worry about than who may or may not take an interest in strava. If they're that bothered they can follow me home....
I see your point but you need to get in the mindset of the average theif.

They dont want to bother burning fuel and time following all sorts across town.

These "initiatives" allow a good deal of leg work to be removed from the comfort of their sofa.

I think the report is scaremongering somwehat:

Cyclists who use mobile phone apps and websites to plan, track and share their rides are being targeted by thieves using the technology to pinpoint their homes and steal their high-performance bikes.
More than 370 high-value bicycles have been stolen in Staffordshire in four months.
Detectives said riders were using GPS technology so precise, thieves were able to identify, and then target, their houses.

It reads as if to make out all 370 bikes have been stolen in this way when I suspect it's probably a small amount of that total in reality.
