Thanks for that.I would like to keep a record of rides this year as i have a plan. Not bothered about going head to head with anyone.i am meeting up with my mate on monday so he can explain, thanks all.Perhaps on a more serious note, it is a useful tool for recording your rides. If you ignore the knob waving fraternity who drive to the bottom of hills before going all out to get a KOM (King Of Mountain) then it is actually quite good.

Join up using a Facebook account if you like, or not, whatever you prefer. Rides can be uploaded from the likes of Garmins etc, or you can manually enter rides. There is also an 'app' for mobiles which allow you to use the phone as a recording device.
Others may have different opinions, but I have found it a great recovery tool.
EDIT:- Forgot to add. In a similar way to facebook etc, you can be 'friends' with someone who can then see all your rides, and vice versa. You can keep you profile private too if you wish.
A mindnumbingly boring penis waving contest
My mate has just invited me to join him on Strava, now what is it,any help will be appreciated,
Exactly, ignore the naysayers, miserable sods the lot of them. It's a great tool and a bit of fun too. I've used Endmondo and Mapmyride but strava stands head and shoulders above them.I know this is an old thread but I was specifically looking for any discussions on strava.
I recently got it and I must say I do appreciate its features, especially the fact that it is free! Tells me my average times, top run speed, exact route. And stats over a weekly average..
For me the best thing about it is that I review past rides and actually see an improvement and its motivating me to ride faster and better. I started cycling to increase my fitness and health. It gets 5* from me![]()
one really good reason for not putting your postcode in, but the area you live it. It is not difficult to suss out the middle of the exclusion zone and make a conclusion from it!.I dont really use it but as a word of warning, first thing to do is go to settings and there is an option to put an exclusion zone around your house / place you set off and return to.
Others who use Strava will let you know in more detail how to do this , it just stops people who "follow you" on strava looking at the your route all they way to your front door and then coming and relieving you of your pride and joy, all routes will stop half a mile or so (i think there are settings to adjust the distance) away from your house.
