After picking up a plant for a quid, 5 years ago, it has flowered for the first time today. I can't tell you how excited I am

You took it somewhere nice to have it's photo taken then. Well done Rich, it's not only your gills that are green then!

I did something similar with some Agapanthus. Well I know they are now but when I paid 50p for a potfull is was always going to be a surprise. They are white ones too but it took several years before I found all that out. I'm now growin some from the seeds from the plants - that's taking years too

Well done!

What an unusual flower too? :becool:

My mother bought one of those IKEA plants for £1.49 about five years ago and after several repotting's(?) it's only just flowered. It's now a huge bush though - and she really does have greenfingers.

I'm only good at killing plants. ;)

I must admit I try not to look too closely at these weird tropical plants as I don't want to get involved in another time consuming, expensive hobby!

It was more of a case of studied neglect and random watering - a bit like my life really!

Beautiful plants, we gave one to my outlaws about a decade back and they repaid us by giving us 1/3 of the monster it had grown into. After a few years to get used to its new surroundings, ours flowers every year now.

They don't need a huge amount of water but they love good soil and sunlight.

Supermarket orchids respond well to a similar regime.

My wife was all for throwing then in the bin once the flowering was over - she's a fan of flowers not foliage. We have been rewarded with repeat flowering over the past three years and she's reluctantly agreed that I was right to retain the plants

Last summer I similarly resurrected this orchid from apparently dead in the same way vernon
