Stripped thread on cantilever boss

The thread on one of my canti bosses is stripped and I'm wondering what my options are in terms of repairing. As far as I understand I need to buy a M6 x 1 tap and try rethreading it. Any tips, hacks or bodges would be appreciated, thanks.

You could try replacing the boss. I’m assuming the thread in the boss has stripped.
They're usually in very tight and it’s a non standard wrench size. Here’s how RJ does it. You could try a mole grip.

Depending on how badly stripped the thread is, you may get away with wrapping the set set screw thread with plenty of PTFE plumpers tape. It's probably what I would try first.

Otherwise the best thing would be a helicoil insert.
